After 77 Years of Independence, Villagers See Electric Light for the First Time

Jharigaon,16th Aug 2025: After a long 77 years since India’s independence, some villagers in Jharigaon block have finally experienced electric light for the first time. During the election campaign, Jharigaon MLA Narsingh Bhatra had promised that if elected, he would ensure electrification of all villages without power connections — a promise he has now fulfilled.

The remote villages of Katanapani, Dasharikacha, Dipubhatta, Banuguda, Tipapani, and Jampani — located about 20 km from Jharigaon sub-divisional headquarters — had been demanding electricity connections for many years without success. Situated deep inside forest areas, these villages would be enveloped in darkness after sunset, forcing residents to remain indoors out of fear of wild animals. Students could not study at night, and even to charge a mobile phone, villagers had to travel to neighboring villages.

With the installation and inauguration of a new transformer, the area has now been electrified. Villagers expressed their joy at finally seeing electric light and conveyed their heartfelt thanks to MLA Narsingh Bhatra, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
