Baipariguda, 27th Oct 2025:  The Baipariguda Suraksha Manch had been repeatedly demanding safety and maintenance measures for the historic Patrput Bridge, located near Kota Chhak, which was built during the British era. On the 14th of this month, volunteers from Baipariguda, Jeypore, and Lamptaput blocks submitted a memorandum to the Jeypore Sub-Collector demanding urgent action for the bridge’s safety.

Constructed in 1931, this bridge serves as a vital connection for the people of Malkangiri district as well as neighboring states — Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Additionally, hundreds of vehicles pass over it daily as it connects to several major tourist destinations in southern Odisha, including the famous Gupteshwar Shiva Shrine and Machkund Waterfall.

Currently, the bridge is in a dilapidated condition, raising serious safety concerns. Hence, locals had demanded that the administration take necessary steps within seven days to ensure its safety.

Responding to the demand, on Friday, officials from the concerned departments, along with the National Highway Engineer, visited the Patrput Bridge near Kota Chhak to inspect its condition. It has been learned that repair work on the Kolab Bridge will begin immediately.
