Baipariguda, 18th Nov 2025:  The Baipariguda Suraksha Manch has repeatedly demanded safety measures and maintenance for the Patrput Bridge, located near Kota Chhak, which was constructed during the British era and has become unsafe.

On the 14th of this month, volunteers from Baipariguda, Jaypur, and Lamptaput blocks submitted a memorandum to the Jeypore Sub-Collector demanding immediate safety measures for the bridge.

This old bridge, built in 1931, serves not only Koraput district but also people traveling from Malkangiri district, and the states of Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Additionally, hundreds of vehicles travel across this bridge daily to reach major tourist and pilgrimage sites such as Gupteshwar, a renowned Shaivite shrine of South Odisha, and the Machkund Waterfall.

Currently, the bridge has deteriorated to a dangerous condition. Therefore, the volunteers demanded that safety measures be taken within 7 days.

Responding to the demand, on Friday, the National Highway Engineer along with officials from the concerned department visited the Patrput Bridge near Kota Chhak to inspect its condition. It has been informed that repair work on the Kolab Bridge will begin immediately.
