Rayagada: Even after death, Adivasi youth Dili became immortal, giving life to four others through organ donation and earning everlasting remembrance. Dili Mandangi of Gunupur has etched his name in the hearts of many.

Dili Mandangi, a youth from Regeda village under Gunupur block in Rayagada district, met with an accident. After initial treatment at the local medical facility, he was shifted to JEM Hospital in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. The accident, which occurred on Wednesday, the 8th, caused a severe head injury resulting in brain death, as confirmed by the attending doctors. He was kept on a ventilator during his treatment.

When doctors informed the family about the grim prognosis, Dili’s father Satya Mandangi and his mother expressed their wish to donate his organs so that their son’s body could help others live on. They earnestly requested the doctors to facilitate this noble act.

Respecting the family’s wish, the hospital authorities began the procedure to harvest Dili’s organs. From his body, two kidneys, lungs, and liver were retrieved. A specialized medical team from Visakhapatnam came and safely carried out the organ harvesting process. These organs were then sent to medical facilities in Visakhapatnam and other locations where they were needed for transplantation.

According to the transplant coordinator at the medical center, four patients in critical need received Dili’s organs and were given a new lease on life.

Despite being from a tribal background, the decision of Dili’s family to donate his organs during his final moments has sparked discussions and admiration throughout the region. After the organ harvesting, the hospital authorities respectfully handed over Dili’s body to his family.

The family participated in the Jeevan Daan Yojana (Life Donation Scheme) through this act of organ donation. Today, during Dili’s funeral held in Regeda, Gunupur MLA Satyajit Gomango paid his final respects and acknowledged the family’s noble deed. He praised the act, saying that in a tribal community, such a gesture is truly inspirational and commendable.
