Jeypore: The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has launched air-conditioned (AC) buses on three more old routes: Jaypur-Motu, Jaypur-Paralakhemundi (Day Service), and Jaypur-Gunupur. Each of these 3/2 buses is fully air-conditioned and has a seating capacity of 50. With this addition, a total of five routes now have AC bus services. The corporation has also announced that services will soon be extended to six more routes.
Additionally, the administration has provided two-wheel (steel) wheelchairs for the benefit of elderly and differently-abled passengers.
Many of the buses at the Jaypur OSRTC depot are in poor condition. Passengers face various issues while traveling in broken, worn-out buses. Some buses have damaged seats, others have faulty windows or roofs, and some even break down mid-journey. Due to these frequent problems, the corporation has been facing public criticism. In response, a decision was made to introduce new buses on 11 old routes. One of the worn-out buses, previously titled “Chief Minister AC Bus (Old Laxmi 2-tyre vehicle),” was previously removed from service.
Recently, 40-seater AC buses were introduced on the Jaypur-Katagaan and Jaypur-Kashipur via Dashmantpur routes. These AC buses have been well-received, especially during the intense summer heat.
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has provided the wheelchairs. Now, elderly and differently-abled passengers can use these wheelchairs instead of walking from the main entrance of the government bus stand. They can contact either OSRTC staff or security personnel to access the wheelchairs. During the wheelchair handover ceremony, OSRTC Divisional Manager Ishwar Mahapatra, Assistant Manager Prakash Kumar Nayak, and Hrushikesh Mishra were present, along with other officials.
