New Delhi, 21st July 2025: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it mandatory for parents to update the biometric details of children who have turned seven years old. This update can be done at any Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
When Aadhaar is initially generated for children below five years of age, only the photograph, name, and date of birth are recorded—biometric data like fingerprints and iris scan are not collected at that stage due to technical limitations. Therefore, once the child turns five, parents must visit an Aadhaar center to update the child’s fingerprints, iris scan, and photograph.
If a child is between 5 to 7 years old, this biometric update will be done free of cost.
However, if the child is above 7 years of age, a fee of ₹100 will be charged for the biometric update.
To carry out this process, a proof of identity and address is required. The update is free for children aged 5 to 7 and includes biometric data collection.
