A New Chapter in Indian Volleyball: 26th Youth National Championship Kicks Off in Odisha

A historic moment unfolded at the Biju Patnaik Multipurpose Indoor Stadium in KIIT Deemed to be University, Odisha, as the 26th Youth National Volleyball Championship 2025–26 for men and women was inaugurated, signalling a new era for Indian volleyball. The championship, running from March 15 to 20, 2026, promises to showcase the energy, skill, and dedication of the nation’s young volleyball players.

The tournament is being organised collaboratively by the Odisha Volleyball Association (OVA) and KIIT University under the aegis of the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI), reflecting a strong partnership between state and national sports bodies to promote grassroots talent.

A Grand Inauguration

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Achyuta Samanta, Chief Patron of the Volleyball Federation of India, Founder of KIIT, KISS, and KIMS, and President of the Odisha Volleyball Association, who officially declared the championship open.

Among the distinguished guests were Virender Kanwar, President of the Volleyball Federation of India; Ramanand Choudhary, Secretary General of VFI; Gaganendu Dash, General Secretary of OVA and Director General of Sports & Yoga at KIIT and KISS; and Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar of KIIT University. Volleyball legends and representatives from various State Volleyball Associations also attended, adding prestige to the occasion.

The ceremony was a celebration not just of sport but of vision, collaboration, and the dedication of young athletes, marking Odisha as an emerging hub for national-level sports events.

The Youth National Volleyball Championship serves as a critical platform for young players to gain exposure, develop competitive experience, and represent their states at a national level. “This championship is more than just a tournament,” said Achyuta Samanta during the inaugural address. “It is an opportunity for young athletes to grow, learn, and showcase their talent on a national stage. Odisha is proud to host such a significant event, and we hope it inspires many more young people to pursue sports.”

The presence of dignitaries and volleyball legends also provided inspiration, as the young athletes witnessed firsthand the celebration of commitment, discipline, and sporting excellence.
