New Delhi, 30th Oct 2025: During the Cabinet Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the term of reference (TOR) for the 8th Central Pay Commission has been approved.
The commission’s recommendations are expected to benefit around 50 lakh central government employees and 69 lakh pensioners. The 8th Central Pay Commission is a temporary body, and it is expected to submit its recommendations within 18 months.
According to Union Minister for Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, former Supreme Court Judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai has been appointed as the Chairperson of the commission. Professor Pulak Ghosh of IIM Bangalore has been appointed as a part-time member, and Pankaj Jain, Secretary of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has been appointed as a member-secretary.
The commission may also submit interim reports on other matters. Before making any recommendation, the commission will take into account the country’s economic condition and financial structure, focusing on development and related considerations.
