Bhubaneswar: Odisha has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing 5th position in the country in the Performance Grading Index (PGI) released by the Central Government. Back in 2014, Odisha stood at 14th place, but the transformative initiatives under the ‘5T’ governance model introduced by then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have propelled the state to 5th position nationally.
Through consistent improvement in educational infrastructure and academic performance, Odisha has attained a score of 595 out of 600 in the PGI 2.0 for the academic year 2023–24, achieving the “Prachesta-3” grade.
Reacting to the Central Government’s report, former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, expressed his happiness, stating that a strong foundation in government school education is helping students achieve excellence.
Under the 5T initiative, the infrastructure of government schools has been significantly strengthened. To provide quality education, the former state government introduced facilities like smart classrooms, computers, and advanced laboratories. With the application of vocational and skill-based learning, students are gaining practical knowledge. These efforts have led to a major transformation in schools.
From being ranked 14th in 2014 to 5th in 2023, this leap reflects the large-scale reform Odisha has undergone. Naveen Patnaik also expressed his joy on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), celebrating this achievement.
In addition to academics, the physical development of students has also been prioritized. Playgrounds have been upgraded, and sports equipment provided to schools, encouraging overall student development. As a result, multiple reports published by the Ministry of Education have recognized Odisha for its excellent performance.
