Jharsuguda Mar, 30:  A key review meeting regarding the expansion of National Highway-49 from Jharsuguda to Kanaktora into a four-lane road was held under the chairmanship of District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan.

The meeting, held at the District Collector’s office, finalized the alignment and blueprint of the proposed project. The total length of the project is 59.72 km. Currently, the road is a two-lane highway, but considering the increasing vehicular traffic and transportation needs, it has been planned to upgrade it to a four-lane road.

During the meeting, the District Collector also suggested installing solar-powered street lights along approximately 50 km of the proposed stretch. He recommended including this solar lighting system as part of the main project to ensure better illumination and road safety.

Representatives of the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Bargarh MP, and Jharsuguda MLA were present and shared their views. Officials from various government departments, along with representatives from GAIL, MCL, and Vedanta’s Kuraloi coal block, also participated in the discussion.

Following consensus among all stakeholders, the District Collector directed that the project work be expedited.
