40-Year Record Rainfall with Thunder Lash Indravati, Cuts Off Nabarangpur Link

Tentulikhunti, 10th Sept 2025: — In the Indravati basin area of Nabarangpur district, heavy rain accompanied by thunder occurred today. This rainfall has broken a 40-year-old record and set an all-time high. From 8 PM till 10 PM tonight, a record 135 millimeters of rain was recorded, according to data from the rainfall measurement center in Deopali.

Due to the heavy rain and thunder, roads and river crossings have turned into water bodies. The government residential houses in Khatiguda project colony and the nearby villages such as Kumhar Sahi, Goud Sahi, Paik Sahi, Harijan Sahi, and also villages like Fata Guda, Podagada, Barang Padar, Gatiput, Manchagaon, Aunliguma, Khuntiaguda, etc., are submerged in water.

Many poor families are facing severe problems as rainwater is entering their homes. The culvert at Lamataguda is flowing with water at a height of 3 to 3.5 feet, causing the Indravati–Nabarangpur road connectivity to be disrupted.

On the main Indravati road, powerful water currents have created large pits and holes in the road surface. The condition of the residents of Indravati Bazaar is pitiable, with rainwater entering house after house, creating a distressing situation.

The drainage system beside the main market road has become clogged, preventing water from draining properly. As a result, rainwater is flooding every individual’s house.

On the roads, the condition of cows, bulls, and dogs has become wretched due to the flooding.
