2026 Dol Yatra of Lord Jagannath Concludes in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur:March, 11: The annual Dol Yatra (also known as Biman Yatra) festival of Lord Jagannath for the year 2026 has concluded at the Shri Jagannath Temple in Nabarangpur. The festival began on the fourth day with the Holpodi ritual and continued through the fifth day with the reading of the new English calendar for 2026–27. After being colored with the festival of Holi, the celebrations concluded, marking the end of the current year’s Dol Yatra.

Traditionally, this Dol Yatra festival started every day from the Shri Jagannath Temple in Nabarangpur. Each evening after the evening Aarti, the idols of Shri Radha-Krishna were taken in a ceremonial chariot procession. As per tradition, the first offering (Bhog) was presented near the palace. After the Bhog offering at the palace, the procession moved through the town.

During the first day, the procession covered the Nua Bandhu Sahi area; on the second day, it passed through Sankhari Sahi; on the third day, it went to Gaud Sahi and the Gundicha Mandir Sahi. The festival began on the tenth day of Phalguna (Ekadashi) and continued for six days, culminating on Dol Purnima and Holi.

On the fourth day, the Holpodi ritual took place, and on the fifth day, the new calendar (Panjika) was read at Gundicha Mandir by the Nabarangpur Rajpurohit and Shri Jagannath Temple authorities, under the guidance of Chief Advisor Narasingha Tripathy of the Shri Jagannath Niti Parishad.

During this Dol Yatra, five chariots representing Shri Jagannath Temple, Shri Hanuman Temple, Shri Chaitanya Temple, Shri Gundicha Mandir, and the Brahmakarji Ghar were taken out in a ceremonial procession through the town with the idols of Radha-Krishna.

Prominent participants included Nabarangpur Rajpurohit Narasingha Nath Tripathy, Rajendra Tripathy, Chinu Das, Bunu Pujari, Gaur Tripathy, Jagannath Brahma, Gaur Tripathy, Dam Patra, along with all members of the Shri Jagannath Niti Parishad, including Vice Presidents Durga Tripathy, Bhavani Shankar Satapathy, Traya Nath Tripathy, Kali Kinkar Pattnaik, Papu Tripathy, Vicky Barik, Sumit Pal, Satya Behera, Radhamohan Hadap, Rajan Tripathy, RI Chief Limbodar, Sudhakar Padhi, Dipu Tripathy, Devottara employees Ganapati Goud, Min Nayak, Chaitanya Nayak, and Narasingha Behera.

Many members of the Mali community, Devottara Department employees, and Nabarangpur police staff were also present, providing full support and helping manage the festival. The editor of Shri Jagannath Niti Parishad, Kuna Patra, confirmed that all arrangements were successfully carried out with the full cooperation of temple staff and the local community.
