Kosagumuda: The passenger rest sheds are now seeking shelter from government officials. Located at various points along the Kosagumuda–Papadahandi main road, these rest sheds that once provided shelter to people from extreme heat and rain are now in a state of disrepair. Some have broken walls while others have crumbling cement. Despite being in dangerous condition, travelers continue to rely on them due to lack of alternatives. There has been a demand for the district administration to pay attention to the issue.
According to local residents, passenger rest sheds were constructed at locations like Kondapuri, Dadia Majhiguda, BM Semlachhak, Kodinga College, Daniguda, Karchhamala, Singuda, Rajada, and Balenga under government schemes, keeping in mind the convenience of travelers from Kosagumuda block and nearby areas. These structures were built years ago at a cost of several lakhs of rupees. Due to lack of maintenance, nearly 10 of these rest sheds are in a broken and unusable state.
Walls and roofs are cracked and leaking. The floors of many sheds are completely damaged, offering no place for travelers to sit. These places have now turned into hangouts for antisocial elements. Local school and college students, elderly people, and women are often forced to wait under trees or near shop verandas, due to the unavailability of proper rest sheds. During the stormy summer months, especially in Vaishakha (April-May), the situation becomes more severe, causing much inconvenience to the travelers.
