July 6 (UDN): Fourteen construction workers survived a night stranded on a tree after flash floods in the Bagnai River swept away their temporary shelters in Bijaypal village, near the Chhattisgarh–Odisha border.

The incident occurred when heavy rainfall caused a sudden rise in river water levels at a construction site, leaving the workers without safe ground-level shelter. In a desperate move to save themselves, they climbed a nearby tree and remained there throughout the night.

Rescue teams later reached the location and safely evacuated all 14 workers. Officials confirmed that all the workers are safe and accounted for after the operation.

Authorities said the flash floods were triggered by intense rainfall in the region, leading to a rapid swelling of the river and emergency conditions at the site.
