Bhubaneswar, July 21 (UDN): The Odisha government has decided to establish Anganwadi Management Committees (AMCs) across all Anganwadi Centres in the state under the Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 scheme, aiming to improve community participation, accountability, and monitoring of child development services.
The Department of Women and Child Development has directed district authorities to constitute the committees following guidelines issued by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
The AMCs will function as community-based platforms to ensure better coordination, transparency, and effective implementation of Anganwadi services at the grassroots level. The initiative is expected to strengthen local involvement in monitoring nutrition, early childhood care, and related welfare programmes.
The respective Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) will oversee the formation of committees for each Anganwadi Centre as per the prescribed structure and responsibilities. To increase community representation, Odisha has decided to include additional members beyond the central guidelines.
The expanded committee structure will include an adolescent girl from the local community pursuing Higher Secondary (+2) or college education, along with a beneficiary of the Subhadra Scheme who is not associated with any Self Help Group.
The Anganwadi Centre Supervisor concerned with the centre will serve as the Chairperson of the committee, ensuring coordination between local stakeholders and government representatives.
The formation of AMCs is expected to create a stronger community-driven approach towards improving Anganwadi services and ensuring better outcomes for children, mothers, and families across Odisha.
