New International Airport Planned in Khordha to Strengthen Connectivity, Trade, and Tourism Opportunities

Bhubaneswar, May 15:: The Biju Patnaik International Airport is set to be shifted to Tangiapada near Khordha. The new international airport will be constructed around 3 km from Khordha town, near the Khordha-Haldia road, and about 1 km from Gurujang Navodaya Vidyalaya. The Ministry of Civil Aviation informed about this development through a tweet.
While domestic flight operations will continue from the existing airport, international flight services are planned to operate from the newly proposed airport. The new airport is expected to be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, and a final decision on the project is likely to be taken soon.
Last year, during a review visit to the Bhubaneswar International Airport, Airports Authority of India Chairman Guru Prasad Mohapatra had proposed the construction of a new airport. One of the major reasons behind the proposal is the difficulty in acquiring land for the expansion of the existing airport.
