Bhubaneswar, April 11: The Primary Teachers’ Association staged a protest at Lower PMG today over their two-point demands. These include upgrading posts and increasing the basic salary to ₹35,400 as per Level-9, and counting contractual service from 2001 as regular service along with granting notional increments.
The mass protest was held under the leadership of President Ramlal Patel, with the participation of all steering committee members and representatives from various districts.
The association had earlier launched an आंदोलन (agitation) in December last year regarding these demands. MLA Babu Singh and former Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu had visited the protest site and assured that the demands would be fulfilled within seven days, after which the association had suspended its agitation.
Subsequently, the government formed a high-level expert committee to address these demands. However, even after four months, no concrete outcome has been achieved. The association has warned that if the Chief Minister does not intervene, the protest will continue and may intensify in the coming days.
Members including Sushant Kumar Behera, Ajit Maharana, Srikant Barik, Yudhishthir Sahu, Santosh Sahu, Ajay Dhal, Praveen Das, Bankim Chandra Sagar, Naresh Panigrahi, Pramod Pradhan, and others participated in the protest.
