Phulbani, May 19: International Nurses Day was celebrated at the Kandhamal GNM Training Centre. District Collector Ved Bhushan attended the event as the chief guest and said that the nursing profession becomes meaningful when nurses work with the ideals, dedication, and spirit of service shown by Florence Nightingale and Mother Teresa.
Among the distinguished guests were Phulbani Medical College Dean Dr. Narendra Behera, KGNM Director and social worker Ajit Kumar Das, Tehsildar Shubhashree Rath, Director Santosh Kumar Mishra, and Pirikudi Sarpanch Uma Charan Mallik. They stated that nursing is a noble and dignified profession dedicated to service.
The speakers emphasized that along with proper training and sincere duty, knowledge and compassion in patient care have become essential in today’s healthcare system.
Chief speaker Dr. Akshaya Kumar Sahu said that the nursing profession is both a challenge and a noble service-oriented career.
Principal Shubhashree Patra highlighted how the institution has, over many years, provided quality education to hundreds of students and helped them secure employment in various government and private hospitals, making them self-reliant.
Outstanding nursing students who excelled in different competitions were awarded prizes. Later, students of Kandhamal GNM presented colorful cultural performances.
