Sambalpur, Aug 1 (UDN): Heavy rainfall has disrupted road connectivity in parts of Odisha’s Sambalpur district after a bridge was damaged by strong floodwaters, leaving residents of three villages facing difficulties in daily travel.
The bridge over the Katanga nullah on the Pathuria-Badamal road in Ghosaramal panchayat under Naktideul block was damaged after continuous water flow weakened its side wall. The collapse has created large gaps on the bridge, making vehicular movement unsafe.
The affected road serves as an important link for local communities, and the disruption has created challenges for villagers travelling for work, education, healthcare, and essential services. Residents are hoping for early restoration of the damaged structure to bring normal movement back to the area.
Local authorities are assessing the damage and monitoring the situation following the heavy rains. Repair work and safety measures will be important to restore connectivity and prevent further risks during the ongoing rainy season.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by rural areas during extreme weather events and the importance of strengthening local infrastructure to ensure safer and more reliable connectivity for communities.
