Bhubaneswar, July 6 (UDN): Several parts of Western Odisha continued to experience extremely heavy rainfall under the influence of a cyclonic depression, with Sonepur district recording the highest rainfall in the state over the past 24 hours.
According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sonepur station received a massive 328.4 mm of rainfall, marking the most intense downpour in the region. Other stations reporting very heavy rainfall include Ullunda in Subarnapur (290.0 mm), Belgaon in Balangir (279.0 mm), and Telkoi in Keonjhar (276.6 mm).
Significant rainfall activity was also recorded across multiple locations, including Khairmal in Boudh (258.0 mm), Burla in Sambalpur (256.4 mm), Kantamal in Boudh (246.8 mm), Ghasipura in Keonjhar (246.2 mm), and Hatadihi in Keonjhar (241.5 mm).
In addition, several stations across Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Balangir, Boudh, Keonjhar, Bargarh, Kandhamal, and adjoining districts reported rainfall exceeding 100 mm, indicating widespread intense precipitation across Western Odisha.
The heavy downpour has led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, disruption of normal life, and precautionary closure of schools in several districts. Local administrations are actively monitoring the situation and coordinating response measures.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged and vulnerable areas, and follow official advisories as rainfall activity continues under the prevailing weather system.
