Kalahandi, March, 18: A head-on collision between two motorcycles occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Bangomunda Chhak on National Highway 26 under Kokasara police station limits in Kalahandi district. In the accident, a Gram Rakshi (village defense personnel) lost his life, while a jawan riding the other bike was seriously injured and, after primary treatment, was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhawanipatna.
According to reports, Govinda Chandra Panigrahi (53) of Jhariaguda village was riding his motorcycle when it collided head-on with another bike coming from the opposite direction, ridden by Gupteswar Naik of Kandulguda under Atigaon Panchayat in Junagarh block.
Both riders were critically injured in the accident, and Govinda’s leg was severed below the knee. Upon receiving information from locals, the 108 ambulance service, fire brigade personnel, and police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Kokasara Medical. However, Govinda, the Gram Rakshi, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The critically injured Gupteswar was later transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Police have seized both motorcycles and started an investigation. Kokasara Police Station Officer Sujnan Kumar Barik was present at the scene and is continuing the investigation.
