July 6 (UDN): Heavy rainfall has triggered flash floods in Sambalpur district, leading to widespread waterlogging and disrupting normal life across several parts of the district. Amid the adverse weather conditions, one person went missing after a scooter carrying two riders was swept away by a strong surge of water in a drainage channel at Bagdihipada on the outskirts of Sambalpur.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when the riders were attempting to cross a flooded stretch. The force of the rushing water swept the scooter into the drainage channel, leaving both riders stranded.

Rescue teams responded immediately and managed to rescue one of the riders safely. However, the second rider remains missing, and search operations are continuing with emergency personnel combing the affected area.

Authorities have urged residents to stay away from flooded roads, overflowing drains, and waterlogged areas, warning that even shallow-looking floodwaters can be dangerous due to strong undercurrents. Officials are closely monitoring the situation and have assured that rescue efforts will continue until the missing person is traced.
