Malkangiri, July 8 (UDN): A potentially dangerous situation was averted on Wednesday after a five-foot-long cobra was rescued from a residential house at Gauda Sahi under Chitrakonda in Odisha’s Malkangiri district and later released safely into a nearby forest.
According to local sources, the venomous snake reportedly entered the house while chasing a rat that had strayed into the premises. The sudden appearance of the cobra created panic among the family members, who immediately vacated the area and sought assistance from a local snake rescuer.
Acting swiftly on the information, the rescuer reached the spot and carefully located the snake inside the house. Following a cautious rescue operation, the cobra was safely captured without causing any harm to the reptile or the residents.
After ensuring the safety of everyone present, the snake was released into a nearby forest, allowing it to return to its natural habitat. The timely intervention of the rescuer helped prevent any untoward incident and brought relief to the family and local residents.
Wildlife experts often advise people not to panic or attempt to handle snakes on their own, as doing so can be dangerous. During the monsoon season, incidents of snakes entering human settlements tend to increase as they search for food, dry shelter, or escape waterlogged habitats. Residents are encouraged to immediately inform trained rescuers or the Forest Department if they encounter snakes in residential areas.
