The Rollercoaster of Festival Ticket Sales
Few experiences in the music world are as exhilarating and nerve-wracking as buying tickets for a major festival. The anticipation builds as the clock ticks down to the release time, and the adrenaline rushes as you furiously refresh your browser, hoping to secure a spot before the event sells out. For instance, in November of last year, ticket packages for Glastonbury sold out in a mere 25 minutes, with the general ticket sale disappearing in just under an hour. This demonstrates the immense demand and the intense competition to attend these events, making the process both exciting and frustrating for music fans.
Jarred Abbott from A2Z Events discusses some of the world’s most iconic festivals to understand why they are so sought after and the complexities of securing tickets.

The Top 3 Most Iconic Music Festivals
Coachella
Coachella is a multi-genre music and arts festival held in Indio, California, USA. It features a diverse lineup ranging from rock, indie, hip-hop, and electronic dance music (EDM). Known for its star-studded lineup, celebrity sightings, and trendsetting fashion, Coachella offers a unique blend of music and art installations that attract attendees from around the globe. Artists like Beyoncé, Radiohead, and Kendrick Lamar have graced its stages, contributing to its high demand.
This year, Coachella took a surprising 27 days, four hours, and 38 minutes to sell approximately 125,000 tickets for the first weekend, a departure from its previous rapid sellouts. The festival also employs a tiered pricing system, adding to the urgency of early purchase. “The allure of Coachella lies in its ability to blend high-profile performances with a laid-back, desert vibe. It’s as much about the experience and the atmosphere as it is about the music,” says Jarred.
Tomorrowland
Tomorrowland is one of the largest and most notable electronic dance music festivals in the world and is held in Boom, Belgium. It exclusively features EDM, showcasing top DJs from around the world, including David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, and Martin Garrix. Renowned for its elaborate stage designs and immersive festival experience, Tomorrowland creates a magical, otherworldly ambiance with stunning pyrotechnics that make it a must-attend for EDM enthusiasts.
Tomorrowland tickets are some of the most sought-after, often selling out within minutes. This year around 200,000 tickets reserved for Belgian citizens vanished in just 27 minutes, with the remainder selling out by the end of the general sale. The festival uses a pre-registration system, where prospective attendees must sign up months in advance to be eligible to purchase tickets. “Tomorrowland is like entering a different realm. The visuals, the music, the crowd – everything is designed to make you feel like you’re part of something extraordinary,” Jarred adds.
Glastonbury Festival
Glastonbury is a five-day festival of contemporary performing arts held in Pilton, Somerset, England. It features a wide array of genres, including rock, pop, hip-hop, electronic, and world music. Headliners have included legends like Paul McCartney, Adele, and the Rolling Stones. As one of the longest-running and most revered festivals globally, Glastonbury’s rich history and eclectic mix of performances make it a cultural pilgrimage for many music fans.
The festival uses a registration system where attendees must pre-register with a photograph to purchase tickets, aimed at reducing scalping and ensuring genuine fans can attend. Jarred says, “Glastonbury isn’t just a festival; it’s a rite of passage. The variety of performances and the atmosphere of camaraderie and celebration are unparalleled.”
Securing tickets for these iconic festivals demands strategy, luck, and perseverance. Whether it’s the immersive experience of Tomorrowland, the cultural significance of Glastonbury, or the star-studded Coachella, each event promises a unique adventure. Jarred reveals, “The thrill of getting your hands on those coveted tickets is just the beginning. The real magic happens when you’re there, part of the crowd, lost in the music.”
