District Collector Emphasizes Agricultural Diversification and Floriculture to Boost Farmers’ Income and Sustainable Growth

Jharsuguda:Mar, 30:Jharsuguda District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan visited the District Horticulture Office and reviewed various schemes aimed at agricultural development and increasing farmers’ income.

To accelerate agricultural diversification in the district, the Collector provided important suggestions to the Assistant Director of Horticulture. He specifically directed officials to identify waterlogged areas in Lakhanpur block and promote short-term vegetable cultivation instead of paddy. He emphasized that this shift would help farmers move away from traditional farming and earn better profits.

The Collector also instructed officials to prepare a technical proposal for the revival of old cashew plantations located at Chandanimala in Kolabira block.

Additionally, he stressed expanding floriculture activities in the district to enable year-round flower cultivation.
Discussions were also held on increasing honey production and improving its marketing system. A proposal was presented for exclusive branding of honey produced by the Laikera Honey Fed Farmer Producer Company Limited, which the Collector approved.
At the end of the visit, the Collector inspected the office premises and directed that all rooms and surrounding areas be kept clean and well-maintained.
