Puri, Oct. 5 (UDN): A youth sustained a serious bullet injury during a family meeting at Kalikabadi village under Brahmagiri police station in Puri district on Monday, triggering tension in the area.
The injured youth, identified as Tofan, suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was initially rushed to Puri Medical College and Hospital. As his condition reportedly deteriorated, he was later shifted to Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
Argument During Family Meeting
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred during a meeting convened by a young businessman in connection with a proposal to join a political party.
An argument reportedly broke out between members of the extended family during the meeting. The situation allegedly escalated when the businessman, identified as Bulu Pahal, opened fire from a gun, with the bullet striking Tofan in the abdomen.
The exact circumstances surrounding the firing are yet to be established.
Police Launch Investigation
Following the incident, Brahmagiri police reached the village and began an investigation. Police are examining the sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the alleged firing.
Puri SP Prateek Singh also visited Kalikabadi and inspected the scene.
Rice Mill Sealed, Police Deployed
Following the SP’s visit, a rice mill reportedly belonging to Bulu Pahal was sealed indefinitely through the local magistrate.
As tension continued between the two families, a platoon of police personnel was deployed in the village to prevent any further escalation.
Police said all aspects of the incident are being examined and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
