Jajpur, Oct. 5 (UDN): Former BJD MLA Pranab Balabantray has alleged that his convoy was attacked by a group of armed men while he was returning from a public outreach programme in Panturi village under Gadhamadhupur panchayat in the Dharmasala area of Jajpur district on Sunday.

According to Balabantray, the incident occurred after he and his supporters attended a meeting as part of a padayatra in the area. He claimed that around 40 to 50 people carrying weapons confronted the convoy and launched an attack.

Three Vehicles Allegedly Damaged

Balabantray alleged that the attackers were carrying weapons including swords and axes and that stones and bricks were hurled at the vehicles in his convoy.

He claimed that three vehicles were damaged during the incident and that some of his supporters were also assaulted.

Following the alleged attack, Balabantray met Jajpur SP and sought enhanced security. He also demanded registration of an FIR and strict action against those responsible.

Political Allegations

The former MLA alleged that the attackers were associated with Jajpur MLA Himanshu Sekhar Sahu and BJP workers and supporters.

Balabantray questioned why his public outreach activities were being opposed and alleged that the incident took place despite the presence of police personnel.

Police Probe Awaited

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established, and the allegations made by the former MLA are yet to be independently verified.

There was no immediate response from MLA Himanshu Sekhar Sahu, the BJP or police authorities to the allegations at the time of reporting.

The incident has triggered political tension in the Dharmasala area, with attention now focused on the police investigation and whether formal cases will be registered in connection with the alleged attack.
