Puri, Sept. 23 (UDN): The decomposed body of an unidentified woman was recovered from a river embankment in Kaliachera area under Chandanpur police limits in Puri district on Wednesday, prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to police, the woman is believed to be aged between 22 and 25 years. Her identity has not yet been established.
Several items, including an empty trolley bag, a pair of white sandals, an electric wire and an odhani, were reportedly found near the spot where the body was recovered.
The circumstances in which the body was abandoned have raised suspicion, and police are examining the possibility of foul play. However, the exact cause and manner of death have not been established so far.
On receiving information, personnel from Chandanpur Police Station reached the location and recovered the body. It was subsequently sent for post-mortem examination, which is expected to help determine the cause of death.
Police have also begun efforts to identify the deceased and are examining available evidence from the scene as part of the investigation.
