Bhubaneswar, Sept 22 [UDN}:A weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal is showing signs of further intensification, with the active low-pressure area expected to strengthen into a depression today. According to the latest weather information, there is a possibility that the system could intensify further and develop into a cyclonic storm, potentially affecting the Odisha coast.
The system is expected to move towards the Odisha coast and may reach the coastal region by the morning of September 23. In view of the anticipated movement and strengthening of the system, the Odisha Meteorological Centre has issued alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the state from September 22.
Several southern and coastal districts are expected to experience intense rainfall. Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati have been placed under an Orange Alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall and associated weather impacts.
The situation is expected to become more intense on September 23, when Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri and Kandhamal have been placed under a Red Alert for the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
Authorities and residents in the alerted districts have been advised to remain vigilant as the weather system continues to evolve. Fishermen and those engaged in marine activities are also expected to exercise caution in view of the developing system over the Bay of Bengal.
The exact intensity and movement of the system will depend on how rapidly the low-pressure area strengthens over the coming hours. Weather conditions are therefore being closely monitored, with further updates expected from the Meteorological Centre.
