Bhubaneswar, Sept. 8 (UDN): Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Vinaytosh Mishra on Tuesday directed district police chiefs to intensify security preparations for the upcoming festive season while strengthening crime control, cyber policing and community engagement across the Central Range.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the State Police Headquarters, the DGP assessed the law and order situation in districts under the Central Range and outlined priorities for policing in the months ahead.
Focus on festive preparedness
With major festivals including Ganesh Puja, Nuakhai, Vishwakarma Puja, Durga Puja, Gajalakshmi Puja, Deepavali, Kali Puja, Amla Navami, Panchuk and Bali Yatra approaching, Mishra instructed Superintendents of Police to prepare detailed security plans well in advance.
He emphasised adequate police deployment, crowd management, traffic regulation and heightened vigilance in sensitive locations to ensure peaceful celebrations.
The DGP also directed SPs to convene peace committee meetings and maintain close coordination with public representatives, community organisations and local leaders to prevent any disruption during the festive period.
Crime control and faster investigations
During the review, Mishra discussed measures to tackle serious offences such as murder, theft, robbery and dacoity while stressing the need for timely investigations, quicker filing of charge sheets and improved conviction rates.
He also called for stronger action against habitual and organised criminals through enhanced surveillance, intensified patrolling and regular naka checking.
Police were instructed to curb illegal cattle trafficking, illegal mining and unauthorised transportation through sustained enforcement drives and vehicle inspections.
Push against cybercrime and misinformation
The DGP highlighted the need to strengthen intelligence gathering and keep a close watch on rumours and inflammatory or misleading content circulating on social media.
He directed officers to respond promptly to misinformation that could affect public order and to take preventive measures based on advance intelligence inputs.
Community policing stressed
Mishra underscored the importance of building trust between the police and the public, asking police station officers to regularly visit their jurisdictions, interact with residents and address local grievances.
He also instructed Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) to closely monitor police station functioning, crime investigations and service delivery under their respective jurisdictions.
Senior officers attend review
The meeting was attended by several senior police officers, including ADG (Modernisation) Soumendra Priyadarshi, ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, ADG (Headquarters) Prateek Mohanty, ADG (HRPC) Yatindra Koel, IGP (Central) Satyajit Naik, along with SPs of districts under the Central Range.
The DGP said coordinated policing, timely intelligence and proactive community engagement would be key to maintaining law and order during the upcoming festive season.
