Bhubaneswar, Sept. 8 (UDN): The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police has launched a new safety initiative by introducing LED shoulder flickering lights for traffic personnel to enhance their visibility and protection while on duty, particularly during night-time operations.

The wearable lighting system is designed to help motorists identify police personnel from a distance, improve road safety and strengthen traffic management in low-light conditions.
Better visibility for on-duty personnel
The flashing shoulder lights will be worn by traffic police while regulating vehicles at busy intersections and other vulnerable locations.
According to Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, the initiative is intended to make the presence of police personnel immediately visible to road users, especially when vehicles are moving at high speeds.
He said the lights are expected to give commuters a greater sense of security while also reducing the risk faced by officers working on the roads after dark.
Night patrol teams to use the devices
Besides traffic personnel, police teams deployed for night patrolling will also be equipped with the wearable LED lights as part of the expanded safety measure.
The Commissionerate Police believes the initiative will improve both officer safety and operational efficiency by making personnel easier to spot during traffic regulation, emergency assistance and patrol duties.
The move is part of the police’s broader effort to adopt practical technology-driven measures aimed at enhancing road safety and strengthening policing across Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
