Bhubaneswar, Sept. 8 (UDN): A B.Tech student was found dead inside her hostel room at a private engineering college in Sergarh under Khantapada police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to preliminary information, the student, who was pursuing Computer Science, did not attend classes during the day after reportedly complaining of health issues and remained in her hostel room.

Hostel staff alerted after no response

The incident came to light during the routine hostel attendance process when the student could not be located. After repeated calls and knocks on her room went unanswered, hostel staff informed the college authorities.

The room was subsequently opened, and the student was found unresponsive inside. Police were immediately informed and reached the hostel to begin an investigation.

Body sent for post-mortem

The body was shifted to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to help determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

College Vice Principal Jyoti Ranjan Rout said the student had stayed back in the hostel after citing health-related issues and was found during the routine attendance check after staff received no response from her room.

Investigation underway

The college authorities have informed the student’s family about the incident.

Police have not yet disclosed the cause of death, and officials said the investigation will proceed after examining the post-mortem findings and other evidence collected from the hostel.
