Fire Breaks Out at Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Authorities Act Swiftly

Kotpad 31st January 2025  A fire broke out on Thursday at the tent city set up in Sector 22, Chhatnag Jhaunsi. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Before people could understand what was happening, the fire took a dangerous form. More than 12 tents in the tent city were completely burnt to ashes. Fortunately, there are no reports of casualties. Fire brigade vehicles reached the scene and, after prolonged efforts, managed to bring the fire under control.  Notably, a Fire Incident Had Also Occurred Earlier on January 19 at Maha Kumbh

On January 19, a fire broke out in a tent located in Sector 19 due to a gas cylinder explosion. Within moments, the fire spread to the nearby tents. According to the organizing committee, around 18 tents were completely burnt to ashes. Several fire brigade units deployed at the Kumbh site quickly reached the spot and managed to bring the fire under control.

Indian Hockey Squad for FIH Pro League Includes Three Odia Players

Elephant Causes Chaos in Handifuta Village, Badalu; Locals Left in Fear

Kotpad  31st January 2025  An elephant has caused havoc in Handifuta village of Badalu, Dhenkanal. In the late hours of last night, the elephant entered the village, demolished the house of Pramod Nayak, and trampled it underfoot. Tragically, a seven-year-old girl sleeping in her mother’s lap inside the house lost her life. However, the child’s mother and grandmother narrowly escaped the rampaging elephant. They reportedly fled just in time to save their lives. The incident has sparked outrage in the village.

Angry villagers have blocked the road at Handifuta. As a result, traffic has come to a complete halt on the Hindol-Gudiakateni main road, which connects to National Highway 55. The Meramundali section of the Sadar forest division in Dhenkanal has been witnessing frequent elephant attacks in the Badalu region. Frustrated villagers have accused the forest department of neglecting their safety. They are demanding immediate compensation for the victim’s family, electrification of the area, and night patrolling by the forest department.

Kumbh Mela Travel Setback: OSRTC Cancels Bus Service for Pilgrims

Kotpad  31st January 2025 Independent Bus Service from Odisha to Ayodhya Suspended Due to Overcrowding at Mahakumbh Considering the excessive crowd at Mahakumbh and yesterday’s unfortunate incident, the independent bus service from Odisha to Ayodhya has been temporarily suspended until February 4, as per the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC). The organization announced this decision through its official ‘X’ handle.

Passengers who had booked tickets in advance will receive a refund. OSRTC has also issued a helpline number for affected passengers, allowing them to contact and provide necessary ticket details to claim their refunds.

Yesterday, on the special occasion of Mauni Amavasya, around 5 crore devotees gathered at Mahakumbh for the holy dip. Unfortunately, a stampede in Dalachak resulted in 30 deaths. Ayodhya is also witnessing massive crowds since the beginning of the Kumbh Mela. In light of the situation, the Yogi government has advised devotees not to visit Ayodhya at this time.

President Trump Assigns Elon Musk to Rescue Stranded Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore from Space

Kotpad 31st January 2025 The new President of the United States, Donald Trump, has assigned the responsibility of bringing back Sunita Williams and her colleague Butch Wilmore, who are stranded in space, to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Both astronauts have been stuck in space since last June.

Regarding this, Trump wrote on social media, “I have asked Musk to bring our brave astronauts back. The Biden administration left them stranded in space. They have been waiting for rescue at the space station for months. I hope they are safe there.”

Similarly, Musk stated, “We will safely bring back our astronauts. Staying there for so long is a terrible situation.”

Notably, Sunita Williams has been in space for eight months. She embarked on her journey on June 5 last year and was supposed to return within weeks. Both astronauts had traveled for the test mission of Boeing’s new Starliner capsule. However, due to technical issues in the capsule, they got stuck on the International Space Station (ISS).
